Project goals
Main goal of the project is to encourage the use of object technology for
distributed systems within industry. It especially focusses on all aspects of
manufacturing control and is an attempt to transfer the knowledge gained over
recent years to industry. The project is funded by the Bayerische
Forschungsstiftung (Bavarian research foundation).
Object oriented technology should be applied to dedicated applications needed
by the industrial project partners to
- demonstrate the usability of object orientation in cooperation with
- Siemens ANL within the area of power plant control
- 3Soft and Siemens within the area of observation and control
- further Bavarian universities within the area of multi media technologies (teleteaching, distance learning, computer supported cooperative work)
- evaluate the qualification of modern programming languages (mainly C++ and Java) and platforms (esp. NEO)
With demonstrating the project's progress and results additional regional
partners are expected to be found for cooperation. These demonstrations are
heavily supported by a Showroom that is located at the
Erlangen Computer Center.
The Showroom consists of a cluster of Sun Ultra workstations that is directly
connected to the Bavarian 155 Mbit/s ATM high performance backbone network.
This infrastructure allows the optimal integration of project partners that are
not closely located at the university.
