How Can I Receive Facsimiles?
Incoming facsimiles are received as bit image files (and internally stored
as TIFF files containing one or more facsimile pages). The FAX server will
convert the received TIFF file into a PostScript file and send it as a
multimedia mail (using the MIME format) to the FaxMaster.
The FaxMaster will preview the received facsimile, try to figure out to
whom it was send in the first place, and (eventually) forward it to you (if
you are the intended recipient).
You need to use a mail reader (mail user agent as it is called) that
understands the MIME format. Currently this is the the case with VM (from
within Emacs/Lucid Emacs) and Elm 2.4. Thus, you need to have the following
paths in your shell's search path (this is fairly local matter):
- Sun 4 machines:
/local/elm-2.4/bin /local/metamail/bin
- BSDi machines:
/usr/contrib/bin
- HP machines:
